The plant Late Embryogenesis Abundant (LEA) proteins possess the natural potential to preserve and stabilize the native protein structure during cellular dehydration. Due to the structural plasticity of LEAPs, it is considered that they can act as 'molecular shields' and affect protein aggregation mostly via intermolecular stabilization. Our goal is to identify LEAPs with the highest potential to complementary bind to Aβ and α-synuclein species and prevent amyloid aggregation. The impact of LEA proteins on Aβs and α-Syn and their aggregation was not described yet by other research groups as far as we know.
